Spotlight: Tanker Quantitative Risk Assessment

Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) can be used for tankers to evaluate competing designs, relative benefits of redundancy of equipment, impact of equipment unavailability during operations, evaluate potential impact on safety and environment. QRA is a rigorous, systematic analysis tool that allows for information integration, consideration of complex interactions and supplies quantitative design insights for decision making.

We carry out tanker QRA to examine nominal loading conditions (fully loaded, partially loaded, empty) the tanker would experience. We develop analytical models to validate discharge, major spill, dispersion, fire & explosion consequence.
Apart from oil spill, fire and explosion hazards in the tanker QRA, we also consider other hazards related to the vessel such as Buoyancy failure, Steering failure, Propulsion failure, Station-keeping failure and Bilge water discharge. We also evaluate External hazards such as Storm, Collision, Piracy and Geo-political issues contributing to the overall risk.
